Frugal Still Life Photography – Week 4

This week we were challenged to work with light metering. I have found with my camera that I prefer to use the 0 or -1 setting. So I set about finding some objects around the house to use as a still life .

I then set them on a chair in the middle of my sunroom with an old voile curtain draped over the back and a vintage tablecloth laid on the chair seat. Of course none of that can be seen in the final image after I used the 2 textures that Cheryl kindly provided this week . I had a lot of reflections in the little pitcher because of all the windows, but decided to leave them as I felt it gave a bit of dimension.

I usually prefer a lighter look, but liked the final effect here.

I also added a little brush from Kim Klassen
This is my first post linking to another blog, so hopefully it will work as I've spent rather a long time setting this blog up ......it was a bit frustrating at times for some reason !

  3. Yes, definitely, leave the reflections on the pitcher: they give it such depth! Love this shot and then the great textures. Between Cheryl and Kim we have so many wonderful texture layers to choose from! Congrats on the new blog. Where in N.C. are you? I'm in Pittsboro (Chapel Hill).
